Much obliged to you for joining todays introduction, Put Your Profit First, Always. Our included creator, keynote speaker, and business person have is Mike Michalowicz. Presently, its my incredible delight to give things to our host, Mike Michalowicz. Connie, thank you to such an extent. It was a joy. We got together for some espresso, around three or four months prior, and concluded that we needed to put this on. I simply need to thank you and everybody at for doing this. Welcome, all the members. Presently, before we kick this gathering off, I have an inquiry for you folks. Who here theres a survey springing up on your screen is a business visionary or an entrepreneur? I simply need to get a feeling of whos going along with us in this introduction. Or then again do you have a little or a medium-sized business, or maybe youre not certain any longer? As I come this introduction, Ill solicit you a couple from surveys, so I can get a sense for where you remain in various aspects of your business. In any case, itll help me and help different people tuning in right presently to know where you remain in your business and what size business you have, how you qualify yourself. If you don't mind answer that and Ill give you a portion of t he survey results as the outcomes come in. A little about me, since I perceive that not every person here knows who I am; My name is Mike Michalowicz. I began my first business when I was 24 years of age not on the grounds that it was something I proposed to do. I was working for another business and saw a chance. Never thought Id be a business person, and I fell into it. Indeed, I was extremely blessed. Great planning has a major factor, yet in addition some key moves, and I had the option to manufacture that organization and sell it. I did that with the subsequent organization, as well. I presently work a gathering. We run an association called Profit First Professionals. My association affirms bookkeepers and clerks, and helps organizations simply like the people tuning in by making their organizations increasingly productive. Incidentally, the outcomes are rolling in from the survey; 75 percent of the people tuning in right presently are entrepreneurs and 25 percent are medium-sized entrepreneurs. Medium business as a rule produce $5 million and over in income, and independent company is for the most part $5 million and less. In any case, there are numerous meanings of that, so its truly fascinating to perceive how youre characterizing yourself. While I had each one of those early triumphs with my business, I came to acknowledge I am genuinely Dr. Frankenstein. Maybe you are, as well. The explanation I call myself Dr. Frankenstein is I, and you, had the fortitude, the capacity, the knowledge to begin a business. Things being what they are, much the same as Frankenstein, we took together the pieces we could discover of money related assets, a portion of the information we had, and a portion of the assets and gear we could scrap together. By sewing those things together, we had the option to begin a business. Quickly, that supernatural occurrence snapshot of beginning a business transforms into acknowledgment that we have assembled an a monster is presumably a superior word, a money eating rascal a business that is simply devouring cash. The best way to at long last make some salary for ourselves, to at long last compensation ourselves the manner in which we merit, to encounter the money related opportunity weve been seeking a fter, is for us to develop more. Its fair to develop to a specific size where that beast transforms into a workhorse for us. However, insights demonstrate that doesnt occur in reality. There are 28 million independent companies in the U.S. what's more, 21 million are running registration check. That implies 21 million organizations dont can make due in business much one more week, on the off chance that they dont gather more checks if more income doesnt come in, on the off chance that they dont make another deal. These are genuinely registration check organizations. It astonished me when I initially found out about the measurement that such a large number of organizations 28 million organizations and 28 million business people and entrepreneurs could begin a business, have the fortitude to get possibilities and customers, to draw in business, to gather income, do every one of these things, however couldnt turn a benefit. Were individuals only bumbling around there or was simply something different defective? Indeed, I found that there was something imperfect. That is what would go over in our hour or so together. Theres an equation. Its called GAAP, or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, that is making organizations battle that is forestalling benefit, truth be told. Theres a superior method to getting productive in your business, and I call it benefit first. The procedure is straightforward it is putting your benefit first. Presently, Ill clarify the means that get that going. At the point when you put your benefit first, there are numerous prizes youll harvest. Well offer what you gain around the finish of the introduction. Lets do one more survey question before I begin diving into the meat of this introduction. I need to know, whats your impression of riches? How would you characterize it? You should see it springing up on the screen now. On the off chance that you would, pick the appropriate response that suits you most, what is your concept of riches? Do you consider it to be your capacity to go through cash uninhibitedly? Is it having the ability to develop your business while sparing at the same time? Is riches simply the experience of having win-wins with others? Is it keeping up a specific way of life or claiming the way of life you need? Which one of these decisions best speaks to your meaning of riches? All things considered, for some individuals Im going to return to that survey in a second and offer the outcomes yet for some individuals, riches has been top line thinking. All things considered, top line believing is we as a whole realize what the top line is. Its deals and income. I cannot disclose to you what number of gatherings Ive gone on with business visionaries and myself for a very long time accepting that achievement was characterized by the top line how much cash I was bringing into the business. Be that as it may, benefit was an idea in retrospect. In this little slide youll see here isn't an error or a deception of text dimensions. We consider income to be the objective and benefit as a minuscule idea in retrospect. Due to this attention on the top line as a result of the conviction that riches is a top line most business visionaries and entrepreneurs are centering there and not accomplishing perpetual riches. Coincidentally, the outcomes are coming in. Im going to flip back so you can see the appropriate responses. Seventy-five percent of people have said that having the ability to both spare and develop is a meaning of riches. Around 25 percent of the input is stating make a success win for myself as well as other people. In this way, riches is characterized in the experience and the financials. Its fascinating. I concur; I think how I characterize riches is a mix of those two. For what reason do great organizations turn sour? Indeed, its brought about by this equation called GAAP. Maybe this is better called the story of two organizations on the grounds that in the previous measurement I shared, out of 28 million independent ventures in the U.S., 7 million continued benefit utilizing GAAP; Twenty-one million dont. GAAP, which well expound, is a defective recipe, however for specific characters, it works. For a dominant part of business visionaries, it doesnt. Most of business visionaries, truth be told, experience whats called The Survival Trap. Its a genuinely determined snare. Let me clarify how this functions. Im sure everybody on this call knows about being in direct An and needing toward go to point B. Point An is the place you are today, point B is the vision you have for tomorrow. I think we as a whole have heard the platitude that the most limited separation between two focuses where we are presently and where we need to go is a straight line. In this realistic, you saw that just poppe

I Work With My Husband Every Day Here are the 5 Rules That Keep Our Relationship Strong

I Work With My Husband Every Day â€" Here are the 5 Rules That Keep Our Relationship Strong At the point when I met my better half, Luke Malek, in graduate school ten years back, working with him was the keep going thing at the forefront of my thoughts. Without a doubt, I cherished the man, however as an aspiring, achieved, best in class lawyer, I was centered around developing my profession freely. I was glad to simply put forth a valiant effort to have supper together during the week.Luke and I sought after various zones of the law. He served for a long time in the state assembly, most weeks driving from our home in north Idaho to the capital city, Boise (a seven hour drive). I took an occupation functioning as a unique partner and later an associate United States Attorney with the Department of Justice, which implied that I was in Boise full-time, indicting criminal cases at the government level. Since my activity required total secrecy, our discussions at home became, best case scenario, somewhat uneven. In the interim, Luke had begun a law office with a long-term compa nion and was seeking after a run for Congress, adding one more unique to our relationship. When we finished our particular days (regularly in various time regions), the exact opposite thing both of us needed to do was repeat our work days. So, following eight years of seeking after vocations on furthest edges of the countries eleventh biggest state, Luke and I had a come-to-Jesus meeting. He was my associate and partner throughout everyday life, and I needed over an end of the week partner. He felt the equivalent. We investigated what may be conceivable on the off chance that we consolidated our expert superpowers. Lukes law office was developing rapidly and required a litigator. I was intrigued, however just in the event that I joined as an equivalent accomplice, and we started a significant discussion about our guidelines of commitment for dealing with our own and expert lives. In February, 2018, I joined Smith + Malek as accomplice, and weve never looked back.To fabricate a fruitf ul law practice together and direct our developing group, Luke and I needed to build up a couple of immovable standards to keep our expert lives flourishing and our marriage rational and associated. I trust these five hints will help control other people who might need to team up with their life partner in business and in life.1. Regard that conduct ought to be distinctive in an expert setting.Respect is completely basic in any relationship. In the expert domain, particularly in influential positions, life partners should be conscious of how they are rewarding each other at work. Affectionate nicknames, while totally fitting at home, can feel stooping in the work environment. Also, removing your companion since you comprehend what they are going to state is irritating in any setting, however particularly risky at work. It shows you dont esteem their sentiment, and others will rapidly get on that. Temper the commonality you show each other in verbal and non-verbal ways at the office. 2. Differ fairly.Notice I didnt state battle reasonable. You dont battle with associates at work you oppose this idea. Same goes for your companion. Focus on what's relevant, and remain far away from direct and proclamations you wouldnt share with a standard colleague.3. Compartmentalize.Your individual battles with your companion ought to never be the topic of any discussion at work. Ever. Keep your own life individual, and evade the impulse to overshare with associates. They are not your marriage mentors or mediators.4. Choose together if youll take work home or leave it at the office. Before you consolidate powers in business, choose at the beginning whether you need to examine work matters at home. For certain couples where every individual works outside the home, this understanding may feel natural. Make sense of what your work-life limits will resemble, and afterward stick to them or renegotiate if conditions change. Convey as often as possible and actually about whats working or not in your arrangement.5. Ensure your own time.Just in light of the fact that you go throughout the day together grinding away doesnt imply this is quality time with your life partner. Make an opportunity to do fun things together and keep discuss work untouchable altogether during these occasions. At the point when you cooperate, its considerably increasingly basic not to lose your feeling of self in the marriage. Spend time with your separate companions together and without your life partner. Hold tight to your singularity, since its why you and your life partner coordinated up in any case. Ultimately, on the off chance that you make the jump to cooperate, keep it fun. Make giggling a customary piece of your day by day schedule so as to diffuse pressure and extend your association. Im happy Luke and I settled on the choice to be a group in work and throughout everyday life. For good couples, realize that its conceivable to structure the life and vocation that works best for yo u and your marriage.

Six times saying sorry at work is a bad idea

Six times saying sorry at work is a bad idea by Amber Rolfe Always apologising at work? Stop being ‘sorry not sorry’… Although saying sorry is undoubtedly essential in some situations, it’s a phrase that can be prone to overuse â€" especially if you’re guilty of saying it for all the wrong reasons. And it isn’t just a lack of sincerity that could give you grounds to skip the apologies. To help you understand when you should (and shouldn’t) say it, here are six times saying sorry at work is a bad idea:1. When you’re not really sorry Let’s face it, you’re not always going to mean it when you say sorry.Aside from actually being something we say to genuinely apologise â€" it can also be used in the hope that it’ll make a problem go away, or to get your boss off your back. But hey, they don’t know that, right? Wrong. In other words, if your apology is insincere â€" your boss is going to be able to tell. And what happened to the boy who cried wolf sorry? Everyone stopped believing him â€" even in situatio ns when an apology was genuine. So not only does it affect your credibility, constant overuse could also lessen the effect it has going forward. So, to make sure you’re not sabotaging the sincerity of every future apology, only ever say sorry when you actually mean it.2. When you don’t have anything to be sorry for The word sorry is often a product of habit. But whether you use it as a filler, you’re apologising for someone else’s mistake, or you just want to make what you’re saying seem more polite, it shouldn’t be an uninvited guest that shows up in every conversation. So before you say sorry without thinking â€" ask yourself; do I have anything to be sorry for?For example, you don’t need to say sorry for going to the bathroom, but you do need to say sorry for spilling your coffee on your colleague’s lap.In situations where an apology isn’t actually warranted, simply replace it with an equally polite but more fitting word or phrase (like ‘excuse me’). That way, you’re not going to risk sounding uncertain and/or apologetic about what you’re about to do.3. When you’re pointing out an invisible problem AKA the pre-emptive apology â€" commonly said before anything has happened, often by excessive worriers. For example, perhaps you’re just about to start a presentation. You didn’t have much time to work on it so you’re worried the quality isn’t great â€" so before beginning you apologise to your colleagues, hoping they’ll ‘bear with you’.This could two possible reactions; you’ll either come across as if you need reassurance (as you’re not confident in your ability) or you’ll simply set yourself up for failure by planting a seed a doubt in their minds. And let’s face it, if you say nothing at all â€" the chances of anyone even noticing any mistakes or slip ups are likely to be reduced.4. When you need help Asking for help is an inevitable part of work, especially if you’re new to a job.So why should you say sorry if y ou need it?As long as you ask your manager or colleague in a polite and friendly manner (allowing them to decide whether they’ve got the time to spare), there’s no reason your request warrants an apology. However, if you find that the task has taken longer than you thought, or it ended up being more complex than you realised â€" saying sorry might be the most polite thing to do. Just do your best to gauge the situation, ensuring you don’t take their help for granted.Remember: you’re shouldn’t need to apologise for reaching out for help. Especially when it’s likely to make you better at your job.5. When you know you’re doing the right thing A sudden lack of confidence can often bring on unnecessary ‘sorries’.Whether you feel the need to apologise for sharing your (opposing) opinion in a meeting, or you’re in charge of making a business decision that isn’t necessarily everyone’s number one choice â€" you shouldn’t need to say sorry for your professional belief s.In fact, the best business people are likely to avoid backing down in situations like these.Saying sorry for having an opinion (or changing it based on others), will only reduce the level of authority you hold â€" and cause people to doubt your opinions in the future. And, phrases like ‘sorry but I don’t agree’ also have a defensive tone which you’re better off avoiding. So learn to speak confidently at work, and you might be surprised at the positive reaction you get.6. When you take a day offTaking time off work can often induce unnecessary guilt. And what follows unnecessary guilt? Usually, an unnecessary apology, whether it’s for leaving your boss short-staffed, delaying a deadline, missing a meeting, or whatever else. But no matter what your reason for taking a day off is (from holiday to sickness) â€" you shouldn’t have to say sorry. In fact, you’re entitled to both holiday and sick days, so there’s no need to feel bad about taking them. The same goes for attempt ing to do work whilst you’re away. Especially if your absence is down to illness. And if your employer expects an apology? Maybe it’s time to find a new job…Still searching for your perfect position? View all available jobs now

7 Reasons You Should Always Speak Up at Work - The Muse

7 Reasons You Should Always Speak Up at Work - The Muse 7 Reasons You Should Always Speak Up at Work In the expert world, conclusions can be perilous. Holding a questionable feeling can harm your notoriety; expressing a conclusion that negates your manager's can leave you defenseless; voicing your supposition at an inappropriate time can cause you to seem silly. The familiar proverb ascribed to Abraham Lincoln goes, It's smarter to stay quiet and be thoroughly considered a nitwit than to talk and expel all uncertainty, and in the domain of business, that is by all accounts reality. Be that as it may, keeping your suppositions down can really be more harming than talking them. Truth be told, assessments are what fuel force all thoughts, plans, and choices start and end with suppositions, and in the event that you reliably cease from voicing yours, you'll be doing both your manager and your profession a damage. 1. You'll Appear More Confident Certainty is never a terrible thing to have. In a prospective employee meeting, it can cause you to appear to be an all the more engaging up-and-comer. In an arrangement exchange, it can cause you to appear a greater amount of a power. In a gathering, it can make you resemble a progressively significant player. Talking your supposition transparently causes you to show up progressively sure, and that impact really increments relying upon the level of discussion related with that sentiment. For instance, on the off chance that you firmly can't help contradicting every other person in the room, you'll show up more certain than if you go the sheltered course and transparently concur. That certainty will work after some time and help drive your profession forward. 2. No one can tell What Could Change A typical explanation behind representatives keeping their suppositions down is a conviction that those feelings don't make a difference that they won't be tuned in to, or they won't be followed up on. For instance, if a laborer is worried about the impacts of another tasks arrangement, the individual in question may decline to voice their feeling under the feeling that the approach won't change, paying little mind to conditions. Nonetheless, there is no assurance that your supposition will be disregarded or thrown away. On the off chance that you make some noise, your voice may have the effect, however on the off chance that you keep down, you'll never comprehend what positive results you could be passing up. 3. You'll Drive Discussion Regardless of whether your conclusion isn't taken into genuine thought, the way that you brought it up can in any case drive an important conversation. For instance, on the off chance that you offer a potential arrangement in a gathering meeting, the gathering may all in all conclude that your thought does not merit seeking after. Nonetheless, all things being equal, your conclusion could produce some elective lines of reasoning and new points of view that keep the discussion pushing ahead. At last, conversation prompts results, and the more assessments there are to take care of that conversation, the quicker and all the more productively you'll in the end get to those outcomes. 4. In case You're Wrong, You'll Learn Why Suppose you aren't sure that your assessment is legitimate, or that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there's something off with it. This could be a sign that your sentiment isn't grounded or isn't important, or it could simply be your mind meddling with you. On the off chance that you need to discover, you need to voice your supposition. In the event that your senses are correct and there is something incorrectly about your assessment, for example, a bogus supposition or off base information the others around you will tell you. You won't seem absurd; rather, the circumstance turns into a real learning experience and you can leave the more shrewd. 5. You Could Be the Voice of the Majority At times, laborers are threatened to voice their assessments since they sense that they're the main ones who feel a specific way. For instance, in case you're sitting in a gathering tuning in to your supervisor talk about another advertising approach and you're worried that the methodology will be ineffectual, you may shut up on the off chance that you feel like the just one of a contradicting mind. Notwithstanding, every other person in the gathering could be thinking exactly the same thing. On the off chance that you voice your conclusion, you could give a voice to every other person. You may have more help than you understand. 6. The Risks Are Low The greater part of us tend to envision most pessimistic scenario situations when confronted with a scary possibility. At the point when you envision voicing your conclusion, you could imagine yourself getting terminated or mortified before the whole organization. As a general rule, these potential results are incredibly uncommon the dangers of making your supposition known are a lot of lower than they may appear. On the off chance that your working environment culture is the sort that would bolster terminating a worker since the person voiced a feeling, you presumably shouldn't be working there at any rate. 7. Lamenting Action Is Better Than Regretting Inaction This is a basic guideline to recollect in numerous aspects of your life. It's conceivable that you voice your sentiment and live to think twice about it, but at the same time it's conceivable that you keep your mouth shut and lament not saying anything. At last, our second thoughts of inaction are significantly more extreme than our second thoughts of activity, which means keeping your mouth shut is really the almost certain lament of the two. Take a risk you'll like it, regardless of whether it doesn't turn out how you expected. Breaking past that terrorizing hindrance can be intense, particularly in case you're accustomed to clutching your assessments, however it's fundamental that you practice consistently your brain in your vocation. Be aware of the suitable occasions and places to talk your assessment, yet never be reluctant to leave your actual emotions alone known. More From Inc. What Its Like to Be a Woman in Leadership in a Workplace-First Environment

What It’s Like to Be a Woman in Leadership in a Workplace-First Environment Over the years, the one question I’ve often heard being asked around which I’ve never quite understood is: “What is it like being a woman in leadership?’  My natural instinct is one of indignation “Why should it be any different from being a man?” Unfortunately, though, whilst the workforce is waking up to the reality that talented women contribute as much as men to an organization, the reality is that we still have a long way to go. In fact, if we look at estimates from the World Economic Forum they suggest that the gender gap won’t close until 2186. So, what are we leaders getting wrong then? How can we get that balance right? Perhaps it starts by recognizing the unconscious bias that’s present in the decisions that we make every day. When hiring: Don’t think separately The most effective organizations, in my view, are those that don’t simply use diversity in order to secure legitimacy but use it to actually increase the cultural competence in their workforce. Companies must avoid thinking of men and women separately. It isn’t about categorizing, it’s about being able to bring together people with different identities uniquely and in a way that makes them both feel inclusive. As a leader, this requires an important degree of both emotional and social intelligence the ability to rise above the need of having to justify or validate, which would imply turning this into a box-ticking exercise. When promoting: Leadership isn’t innate Research shows that even when a woman has the same experience, tenure, and jobs as men, they have a much lower chance of being promoted. What is stopping us from ensuring the likelihood of promotion comes down to capability and readiness, irrelevant of gender? Well, many of us erroneously believe that leadership is innate â€" people are born as leaders. What’s more, many of us think this principle applies mostly to men not women. When it comes to promoting women we often assess more thoroughly: Will she be able to cope with the pressure? Can she lead a team? We don’t do that all that often with men. The reality? Neither men nor women are born leaders, it requires skills like any other new role that one must learn and apply. A person will not necessarily be ready to become the ‘best’ mentor or the ‘best’ team player just because they have the technical expertise, regardless of gender. They are separate skills and we need to teach them before promoting someone. It’s no surprise then to see so many managers lacking the right leadership skills â€" which in turns means the inability to hire, coach and motivate other team members correctly. When determining pay: Think rationally Equal pay dictates that staff doing the same job must be paid the same amount. The trouble is that very rarely are jobs the same nor are the values we need today’s staff to bring to our business. I, therefore, agree that it’s not easy to pay everyone equally nor is it always fair to do so. However, it’s equally unacceptable to use irrational judgments to determine pay. I am a firm believer that in this day and age, we should be paid based on our value added. That is not simply for what we do within the scope of our profession, and definitely not because we belong to one gender or another or are older or younger than our peers, but because we’ve got a set of skills that are invaluable to the company. This implies the combination of traditional ‘hard skills’ â€" the ones required to get the job done on a practical level, ‘softer skills’ â€" a combination of people skills, social skills, attitudes and social and emotional intelligence and finally, what we like to call ‘cultural significance attributes’ â€" an individual’s character traits that foster your company culture. At the heart of our efforts to fight against this, our role as leaders should be to help all women in our workplace understand the matchless value they bring to their company; help them define leadership on their own terms and confidently determine their professional trajectory. So let’s all #PressforProgress. Together we can do this! About the author:  Deborah Knight, is the Director of Client Services at Perkbox,  an employee benefits service that is designed to reward employees for all their hard work and make life a little more affordable.

Who Is Your Professional Catalyst - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Who Is Your Professional Catalyst - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Each of us have a few people in our lives who got us started down the paths weve followed. It could have been an English teacher who encouraged you to write that started you down the path to being a writer, or a supervisor at work who put you on a project that led to an entire career shift. For me, I can point to one guy, Darrin, who helped me get my start in Indianapolis as a business owner and networker. Hes the catalyst â€" the cue ball â€" who started my life on the path that brought me to the place where Im writing this very blog post. I first moved to Indianapolis to work for Darrin at his marketing agency, and a couple years later, eventually landed a sales and marketing job because of his connection to another guy who became my new boss. In that time, Darrin introduced me to a networking group called Rainmakers, which helped me learn how to network properly. He introduced me to a former colleague of his who had started Smaller Indiana, where I learned the power of social media. It was through Smaller Indiana where I met Kyle Lacy â€" a former Personal Branding Blog writer â€" and my co-author for Branding Yourself. That book led to a friendship with Jason Falls, which led to the co-writing of No Bullshit Social Media. In fact, nearly every professional accomplishment in my life I can point to person A, who I met through person B, who I met through Person C, who I met because of Darrin. So who is your catalyst? Who sent you off in a direction that led to your professional accomplishments and victories? And if youre just starting out, whos the person who inspired you to reach this point? This is Why You Need to Network With networking, you may end up meeting someone who will have that impact on your life. And youll never know who they will be or where youll meet them. You could meet them at a networking meeting tomorrow, it could be your new boss next year. It could have been a 9th grade teacher, or it could be someone who you met for coffee last week. You need to keep your eyes and ears open for the people you meet, and never discount someone because they cant directly benefit you right at that moment. The relationship may not reach its full potential and purpose for another three years. When I met Darrin back in 1991, we had no idea about the impact of that meeting, or what it would mean. But I know that if I hadnt met him, I wouldnt have been in the place to do any of the things I have. Once you identify your personal catalyst, take a few minutes and let them know what they did for you, and how they ended up causing your life to take an interesting twist that you might have never seen. Try to imagine where your life would have been if they hadnt been there to send you off in the right direction in the first place. Author: Erik Deckers is the owner of Professional Blog Service, and the co-author of Branding Yourself: How to Use Social Media to Invent or Reinvent Yourself, which is now in its 2nd edition. He co-wrote his previous book, No Bullshit Social Media: The All-Business, No-Hype Guide to Social Media Marketing, with Jason Falls in 2011; both books are available at Amazon.com, Barnes Noble, and Books-A-Million. Erik is also a professional speaker. And he knows that none of this would have happened without Darrin.

Reboot For Improved Results - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Reboot For Improved Results - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Back in the corporate sales environment, a kind I.T. Manager, upon hearing me angrily talking back to my computer, advised, “Elinor, when your computer gives you challenges, just re-boot!” His advice definitely applies to entrepreneurship. We hear about authors experiencing writers block, job seekers who feel they are “up a wall,” and business owners who run out of new ideas. We too, need to re-boot. Have you ever noticed that when you move away from the daily grind to do something enjoyable, or even exercise, that your mind begins to freely wander? Once relaxed or with the adrenaline flowing, I find my creative thoughts also begin to flow. Multiple ways to reboot allow you to find the freedom to express your true desires for business. Most importantly clarity is found. It might be as simple as running errands, listening to music or getting together with friends. When “to do” lists run long, you will be best off taking a time-out just as is done in sports. The only caveat is to remain on target with your goals and daily perseverance for every scheduled working day. Planning for vacation in regard to your work is another way to re-boot. Desiring relaxation this summer, I made a promise to myself to plan ahead for what I consider daily work. Our technology makes this much easier today and being away far more pleasurable. On a daily basis, I share video advice online. However being away, I would not want to take the time. Therefore, I recorded enough daily tips and saved them on an internet server. So rather than taking a number of minutes each vacation day to record and share, it will only require a few short moments. The same may be done for your blog, any articles you write or other projects you have in the works that include internet access. Planning and simplifying your workload and processes will allow you to approach your work more efficiently and in a more relaxed state. You will then be ready to approach others in a friendlier and relaxed manner upon your return. This is the key to successful selling; do not be in a hurry but make certain to have a quality conversation or a few upfront. This relaxed style will build your brand as being “the one salesperson to trust” and, on many levels will help you increase your sales and clientele. This advice also relates to your priorities. They should always be in check. Once you have your long-term vision in place and a plan in place for achieving it, projects should be prioritized. That is the big picture for your business. However, on a day to day and weekly basis, another good practice is to highlight the “must-do’s” for the week, and the “must-do’s for each working day. This way, when interruptions arise, and you just need to relax for a moment, you know precisely what still needs to be done before end of day and what may wait for tomorrow. Operating in this manner, you will be headed for a very Smooth Sale! Author: Elinor Stutz, CEO of Smooth Sale, LLC authored the International Best-Selling book, “Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results” and “HIRED! How to Use Sales Techniques to Sell Yourself On Interviews”. She provides team sales training, private coaching and business retreats to grow you business, and an inspiring keynote for your next convention. Elinor is available upon request for consultation.

How to Increase Your Social Influence - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

How to Increase Your Social Influence - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career No longer is your social importance measured solely by the number of followers you have. More important than quantity is the quality of engagement you have with the people who follow you. Resources such as Klout, measure this level of engagement as a way to quantify your influence. Social influence is the effect you have on others’ emotions, opinions and behaviors. One of the most well-known influencers is Oprah. She can recommend a book or product, and immediately her followers are buying. Influence is important for several reasons. Managers need influence to encourage the people who work with them to get things done. Bloggers vie for influence to get sponsors. Ultimately, the benefit of social influence in your small business is that it can set yourself apart as an expert and leader.  Here are a few things you can do to gain social influence. Give value. The more you give, the more you’ll get in return. Some people like to hold on to their best stuff to sell in their business. But don’t be afraid to give your followers useful, helpful tips that will benefit them. The more value you give, the more your followers will engage and tell others. Share the love. While you should share your own business ideas and tips, sharing information from other resources will show that you pay attention to your industry and want to give the best information to your followers regardless of the source. The people whose information you share, will often return the favor. Engage with influencers. Don’t follow or comment with the top experts in your field simply for the goal of getting them to recommend you or pull you up to their level. Remember, influence is earned. Instead, connect, share and discuss information and ideas with others in your industry. When they see you know what you’re talking about or feel you have something of value to share (#1), they’ll engage with you as well. Tap into emotion. Influencers often have evangelist followers, not in the religious sense, but in the sense that these people believe in and are excited about the influencer. Building an engaged excited following requires tapping into emotions, whether its sharing happy, funny or even angry information, although be careful about being negative too often. Be approachable. Influence is about people listening to you, and the best way to that is to listen to them. Pay attention to their needs, which will allow you to deliver value (#1). Respond to and engage with them. Followers that feel heard are more likely to engage with you and share your information with others, thereby expanding your influence. Social influence is something most business people want, but it’s not obtained simply through tweeting at the right times of day or buying the most followers. Instead, influenced is earned, little by little, through authentic sharing of information, tips and other items of interest to followers. It grows slowly, but if done right, is strong, and becomes a powerful force in growing your business.

The Art Of Running A Business

The Art Of Running A Business Running a business should be considered a form of art. The amount of concentration, determination, and execution that it takes is immense. Right from the very beginning your problem solving skills, as well as decision making skills will be put to the test. For a first time business owner, it can be rather worrying. For someone who has been in the game for a few years, it may just become natural. But we’re aiming to talk to those who are new to business, and those who might be struggling with the day to day management of it. The art of running a business doesn’t come naturally to some, but for some, running a business is the only career they see themselves working in. So, for those of you that find yourself unsure, here is how you can master the art of running a business to make sure you take your business to successful heights. Making Connections Making connections with the people you meet through business is so important. To put it into terms that will make it easier to understand, we’re going to refer to your school years. However many moons ago they might have been, you will remember that making friends within the first few weeks was essential. They were the people who would carry you through your school years, and be there for you whenever you needed them. If you think of the connections you need to make within business like this, you’re going to go far. The amount of connections you’re going to need to make throughout the years will grow and grow, but as they do your business will get stronger and stronger. One of the first connections you’ll make is with a financial adviser and accountant. In the first few months, they will be your saving grace with guidance on how your finances are doing, and if you are heading towards deep waters. Having an accountant that you can trust to actually manage your finances is esse ntial. Like with most people in life, a lot of accountants are just out there to take your money, and the time they invest into managing your accounts isn’t as good as it should be. So, do your research and find some recommendations. The sooner you find someone reliable, and someone you can actually get along with, the sooner you can relax with your finances. Managing Your Time Unless you went straight from school and into managing your first business, it might be hard to manage your time. It’s not going to be a structured life, and in the beginning you’re going to be dealing with a few sleepless nights, many weekends at the office, and a lack of social life that might be hard to deal with. But that doesn’t last, and it’s just the effort needed to actually get a business off the ground. As time goes on, you’ll find that your time becomes more free, but by no means does it compare to the freedom of a normal 9-5 job. To manage your time effectively, you need to be able to plan in advance, and actually make sure you stick to a schedule that you create. So, if you know you’ve got a day full of meetings on Thursday, make sure all the daily tasks of running a business that you manage are completed by the Wednesday night. You’ll then have the Thursday to focus on the task at hand, rather than having your mind wander to the tasks you know you were meant to be completing. When planning your week, you also need to make sure you’re giving yourself some time to rest and recover. Mid week is usually the perfect time for this. Take the afternoon off, spend it with family or friends, and forget about everything business related. It’s going to be so easy to overload yourself and become purely business based. You’ll lose touch on reality, and can often lose contact with those that you would have considered your nearest and dearest. Plus, when you come in the next day, your mind will be refreshed and ready to focus on the rest of the week. Wherever possible, you should also try and give yourself at least one day of the weekend to go and enjoy yourself! Owning a business will make you a lot of money if you do it right, and that money can be put to good use with a couple of days off a week, and the odd treat here and there whilst you’re finding your feet in the business world. Managing Your Employees Managing your employees is a skill that isn’t going to come easy. Unless you’ve had previous managerial experience, it can be rather intimidating. The process of hiring your first employee, and knowing how to treat them is one we’re going to explain to you. You’ve got two options when it comes to hiring. You can either outsource to an agency, or you can try it yourself by putting a job advert out. For your first time, we highly recommend that you do it yourself. It gives you the full feel of the person you’re hiring, and you won’t be hit with any major fees that an agency might charge. It also helps you build more of a connection right from the beginning, something a lot of companies fail to do. It might benefit you to do a probation period. Your employee has to prove themselves, and you need to know that they’re perfect for the job. A 3 month probation period for example is the perfect way of getting to know someone. Just make sure you actually are monitoring their progress throughout to get a clear understand of whether they’re right for the role. As for keeping a group of employees happy, there’s one big thing that you can do. If you’re a company that works shifts, it’s essential that you’re not putting the same person on the same shift, unless of course they have specifically requested that. What is a rotating shift? It is one that you can create that will allow individual employees to switch between shift times. It gives them and yourself more flexibility and happiness. You should make it a priority that your employees are safe and happy within the workplace. You should always encourage honesty, and make sure that your door is always open to deal with problems they may have. The more confidence they feel when talking to you, the better your business is going to be ran. Events Attending events is something you should do right from the very start. In fact, you should try and attend some trading events or conferences before you even launch your business. The valuable insight they can give you with regards to improving business processes could be the key to your success. The more information you’re armed with, the further you’re going to be able to go. When your company is up and running, attending trade events is essential. It is a form of marketing that some companies seem to ignore, but what can be better than face to face interaction with potential customers? However nerve wracking it might be, it’s the perfect chance for you to share your business with the world. There is always a fee involved with having a stand at a trade event, but the marketing you will do on the day should be able to cover the majority of the costs that you will have had to spend in the beginning. Just make sure your stand is fun and interesting, with perhaps a freebie to lure potential customers over. So now you can see there are many factors associated with the art of running a business, but hopefully now they will be much clearer for you, and your business will be as successful as you want it to be.
